Meet Your Instructor

Shawn Schroeder, Biology

Faculty PhotoShawn Schroeder grew up near Henderson, MN, and has been teaching Biology at SCC since 2006. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Geography and Environmental Science and his Master’s Degree in Biology from Minnesota State University, Mankato. His specialties are botany and ecology and he can be found every Fall semester in a pontoon on a local lake teaching his students about lake limnology.

Shawn has a strong passion for science education and the politics which impact science. His past research includes studies on Northern Leopard Frog populations, terrestrial plant diversity inventories and effects of environmental factors on aquatic plants. He has also spent the better part of 20 years reviewing and evaluating scientific literature on the issue of climate change.

Shawn also provides care for the plants in the SCC Garden Court and it is his green thumb which keeps this area growing. Outside of SCC, Shawn is a father of 3 who lives on a hobby farm, enjoys spending time with his family, biking, gardening and is an avid bird watcher.
