Tracy Murphy, Communication Studies

Faculty photoTracy Murphy is a proud faculty member of South Central College since 2000.  Beyond teaching, she served as interim dean of liberal arts & sciences (2006-07), chair of her department two times, chaired and participated in dozens of committees and initiatives, and represented the college and her department at dozens of conferences and workshops. 

Tracy received her education from the Minnesota State system:  a Masters degree in Speech Communication from Minnesota State University, Mankato, a Bachelors degree in Speech Communication and a minor in English from St. Cloud State University, and her Associate in Arts degree from Itasca Community College, Grand Rapids.  Besides South Central College, Tracy taught at two other Minnesota State Colleges. 

Tracy is dedicated to global education, especially after being granted a 6 Week Fulbright Group Project Abroad trip to China in 2005, and conducting research on collectivism and ethnic minorities while teaching for Guangxi Normal University during her 2008 sabbatical. 

She enjoys her tight-knit family, consisting of her husband, three children, and two dogs.  Tracy loves to learn, read, practice art and creativity, learn about China, and travel with family at home and abroad.
