Meet Your Instructor

Tracy Murphy, Communication Studies

Faculty photoWelcome to my online course!  I am a proud faculty member of South Central College, with my home-base office in North Mankato.  I have contributed to the college in a number of ways:  Fulltime communication studies instructor since 2000, interim dean of liberal arts & sciences (2006-07), and a member of nearly every committee imaginable since I was hired in 2000.  Currently, I am a member of the global committee and the assessment committee.  I enjoy the subject of global education very much, especially after my Fulbright Group Project Abroad trip to China (2005) and my sabbatical (2008) teaching & researching also in China.  These two experiences inspired me to seek future travel opportunities so I may share them with my students.

I currently teach all the communication studies courses offered at SCC including:  Introduction to Human Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Small Group, and Public Speaking.  Additionally, I teach both Interpersonal and Intercultural online.

Before teaching at South Central College, I received my graduate degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato; my bachelors degree at St. Cloud State University; and my associates degree at Itasca Community College.  I was born in the woods in Grand Rapids, MN.

I have a terrific family, one husband and three children.  We live in Minnesota Lake (25 miles south of Mankato).  We have a very old house, a large yard for our three dogs, and an old school house.

I love to read, write, cook, dine, walk my dogs, study Chinese, and travel with my little family.

I enjoy meeting you and having you in my class!
