Meet Your Instructor
Candy Mortenson-Klimpel, Nursing
Hello! My name is Candence "Candy" Mortenson-Klimpel, and I am honored to work at South Central College as a nursing faculty. I teach in the LPN and RN programs in online learning, laboratory, and clinical experiences.
My education in nursing began as a diploma nurse from a small nursing program, which no longer exists, in Albert Lea, MN called Naeve Hospital School of Nursing. I completed my Bachelors of Science of Nursing in 1985 and Masters of Family Nursing in 2001 both from Minnesota State University, Mankato. The majority of my career has been in acute care with emphasis in critical care, trauma, renal dialysis, and neurology-orthopedics. I have been teaching since 2005 in at both university (Minnesota State University, Mankato) and colleges (Ridgewater College in Hutchinson, MN and Rasmussen College).
I am also a current Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum with Emergency Nurses Association and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Instructor with the American Heart Association.
I am a member of the Minnesota Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society.
You can see that being a nurse is a lifelong learning adventure and can take you down many paths! As you begin your career in nursing, I encourage ongoing personal development and also involvement in the community to increase awareness about health promotion, prevention, and maintenance.
