Meet Your Instructor

Renee Guyer, Biology

Faculty PhotoHi! I'm Renee Guyer, Biology instructor at South Central College. I grew up just outside Kansas City, Missouri and then earned degrees in Biology and Molecular Biology from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After undergrad, I headed west to obtain a MS in Microbiology from Colorado State University. I taught Microbiology and General Biology at Front Range Community college in Fort Collins before accepting a job at SCC to teach Microbiology in 2007. I wasn't sure what to expect when I moved to Minnesota and while I do miss the mountains I am happy to be firmly planted here, living with my husband and our son in North Mankato.

I have a real passion for Microbiology especially as it relates to Infectious diseases. My graduate research was in a lab which studied Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of TB, so you are likely to hear a few of those tales.

Thank for signing up for the online course. It will certainly not be any easier just because it is online but I advise you to log onto the course almost every day, pay attention to the deadlines and don't procrastinate. I always accept work early but not late. The most important thing--ask questions when you have them even if you aren't sure exactly what your question is!
