Meet Your Instructor
Catharine Foster, Nursing
Hello! I am a new faculty member in the nursing program at South Central College. I moved to Mankato in 2010 after 20 years in southern New Mexico, where I was a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner. Although I miss Hatch green chiles and amazing desert sunsets, my husband and I are starting to feel like true Minnesotans after surviving our first winter in Mankato. I spent much of my winter planning a garden and exploring the Mankato and Twin Cities areas. I love the theater and have been impressed by the high quality theater available both locally and in the cities. I have two sons in their early 20's. One lives and works in Washington DC and the other is in his last year of college in Ohio.
I have a BSN from West Virginia University and an MSN from the University of Texas at El Paso. In addition to my 17 years as a nurse practitioner, I have been a labor and delivery nurse, a member of the New Mexico Board of Nursing, a childbirth educator, and an instructor in a graduate nursing program, where I taught obstetrics and gynecology to family nurse practitioner students. Aside from serving as a preceptor, working with RN students is a new and exciting role for me. I am happy to be part of a dynamic and dedicated nursing department, and I am looking forward to the 2011-2012 school year.
