Kurt Dershem, Philosophy

Faculty ImageDr. Dershem is originally from Holland, Michigan.  He earned a B.A. in Religious Studies from Hope College, a Master's degree in Philosophy from Bowling Green State University (in Ohio), and a Ph.D. in American Culture Studies from the same institution.  His academic interests include environmental ethics, animal rights, philosophy of religion, philosophy of science, pragmatism, applied ethics, and popular culture.  His nonacademic interests include reading, writing, listening to music, playing tennis, riding his scooter, spending time in nature, going to garage sales, eating ethnic food ... and popular culture.  Kurt lives in Mankato with a menagerie of animals (multiple dogs, cats, and ferrets), and has been teaching at SCC since 2004.
