Becky Brooks, English

Faculty PhotoRebecca (Becky) Brooks is a passionate teacher, cyclist, writer, story-teller, dog-owner, and gardener.

Under her other name, Rebecca Fjelland Davis, she is the author of three published novels: Chasing AllieCat, Slider’s Son, and Jake Riley: Irreparbly Damged. She also wrote Beauty Missing, Hair Hissing: Medusa Tells All and nine other children’s books. She likes to talk about writing with students. She loves mythology and loves to tell stories (which is why all her online classes have synchronous meetings).

Even at her advanced age (her words), she sometimes still races her bike. In 2019, she won her age group in the 12-Hour World Championship Time Trial in Borrego Springs, CA., and she rode her bike 8000 miles in 2019.

Becky is owned by her 160-pound Newfoundland dog Freya, who likes very slow walks and lies in the grass nearby some of the time while Becky works in her garden. Becky likes spending time with her husband, two grown children and their spouses, and her grandchildren.

Becky got her A.A. degree at Waldorf College, her B.A. at S. Cloud State University, her M.A. and her M.F.A at Minnesota State University, Mankato (and got a job in Mankato and stayed).
