Meet Your Instructor
Ramona Beiswanger, Health/Family Consumer Science
My name is Ramona Beiswanger and I am a Health Instructor in the Liberal Arts and Sciences Department. I teach the Nutrition and Healthy Living courses. I hope to develop and teach more health courses in the upcoming years.
I received a Bachelor of Science in Community Health and a Master of Science in Health Science, both from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and started my teaching "career" in 2000 for the Health Science Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato. At MSU,M I taught Consumer Health Issues, Health and the Environment, and First Aid and CPR for the First Responder. In fall of 2005 I began teaching the Nutrition and Health Living courses for South Central College.
My academic areas of interest include: body image and self-esteem, dieting and weight concerns, stress management, and consumer health issues – and I love discussing these topics with students in and out of the classroom. Even though you may be taking the online Nutrition course, don’t be shy about visiting with me if you run into me on campus – and feel free to come by during office hours or even schedule an appointment “just to talk”.
I would have to say the greatest moments in my life include the following:
- The day my daughter, Beth, was born (June 2008 – That’s me and Beth in the picture.)
- The day I married my husband, Scott
- The day I received my Master’s Degree
- Any day when a student lets me know that something I taught them made a difference in their life.
